BestPlay for Hump Day - Give them the Earth!

Balloons, a paper plate, some green and blue food colouring, two tablespoons of sugar, a pinch of salt, 1/3 cup of flour, two cups of water and a few sheets of paper.

Add the sugar, salt and flour to a medium saucepan and mix in the two cups of cold water. Place the saucepan on the stove over a medium heat and whisk together until the mixture thickens and becomes smooth. This should take 10-15 minutes. Remove from the heat and allow to cool completely. Divide the mixture in two and then add 4 drops of each food colouring to each half.

Then, blow up your balloon (about half full, so it’s easy for your little one to hold) and tie it. Put some big spoonfuls of the green and blue paint on to the paper plate. Then just take the balloon, rub it in the paint and stamp it onto the paper!

If they’re old enough, show your baby how to pick up the balloon, place it in the paint and then print it on the paper. Either continue helping them or let them try on their own! Continue chatting about what you are doing (“Look at the the lovely round shape the balloon is making!”, “ Look at the edges, aren’t they round?”, “See how the colours are mixing together?” “Aren’t they swirly!”).

This activity works well if/when your baby is at the highchair stage too!
