BestPlay for Hump Day - Oh No It's Play Dough!

Two cups of plain flour, ½ a cup of oil (any kind will do!), food colouring (the natural ones that you can find at most supermarkets are particularly great!) and water

Add the oil to the flour and mix thoroughly. Then mix the food colouring with water. Finally, add and mix in enough of the water to make a soft dough. Knead the dough until it’s smooth. You can then store it in an airtight container or even a ziplock bag. Unless temperatures are extreme where you live, the dough can last for up to a month.

Once you’ve made your dough, give your little one just a couple of handfuls of the it at first so they can explore its texture, smell and of course, taste! (It is extremely salty so it doesn’t taste great. If they do eat it however, it won’t hurt them.) Show them how to push and pull the dough on the table top. They’ll squeeeeeze and watch the dough ooze through their fingers! What discoveries they’re making! (Look at what I can do with my muscles!) They’re strengthening their little fingers and experimenting with force. They’re practising cause and effect concepts. They’re using eye-hand co-ordination as they watch and control their actions.
